Full & Partial House Rewires

What’s a Rewire

Full home rewires involve removing all of the existing electrics (consumer units, cables, accessories, fittings) and replacing them with a totally new installation to your specification. A basic rewire will include an RCD or RCBO consumer unit with surge protection, circuits for lights, sockets, kitchen, and cooker, with a light, switch, and about four sockets in each room.

Specification

The specification depends on the wants of the client. This can be added to, such as downlights, showers circuits, bathroom fans, fire alarms, decorative lights, electric heating, garage electrics, outside lights, and so on.

Testing and Certification

The finished work will be fully tested to BS7671 and certificates provided, such as an Electrical Installation Certificate, Building Regulations Compliance Certificate, and Fire Alarm Certificate.

Reasons to have a Rewire

Electrical installations typically last 30 years. Most rewires take place because the electrics in a property have expired: old, degraded, and dangerous. It can also be that the client wants a fair amount of new electrical work, and it’s preferred to get an all-new installation rather than having a property with half old and half new electrics. It is a messy job and requires plastering and decorating afterwards so can be a good idea to get it all replaced in one go. Another reason can be so a client can have the installation exactly how they want it.

Work Process

A standard 3-bed rewire could take 2 weeks for one electrician. It’s easiest if the property is empty for everybody’s convenience but the work can be completed lived-in.

Quote

To quote for a rewire the property needs to be visited to find out what specifications you would like in each room and around the property. After that a quote will be sent and if accepted we can arrange a start date for the work.
